Survival Carry Bag

March 12, 2013 0 Comments

<p>Your everyday carry (EDC) bag is one kind of your most significant preparations, much like bulletproof vests. It can be lightweight bag of equipment to backup, support and compliment your on-person EDC. Pockets have only a little space–this bag catches the overflow. It should be able to make you stay taking a few days in the event you need to pick up and go, when you get stuck in the office, or if disaster strikes and you’ll want to bug out for home.

Several “Don’ts” to bear in mind:

Too tactical.
  • Don’t buy a completely tactical bag that may look out of place. Multicam, magazine pouches and MOLLE panels draw attention and mark you as being a “tactical” type of guy–probably armed, too.  Don’t be that tactical goober guy–save the stuff for that range or get rid of the world, not your day-to-day carry. Carry something average looking.
  • Don’t overload the bag with gear–one, you’ll must haul it around. Two, you would like to have extra room to add things as needed–books, a laptop, etc.
  • Don’t limit you to ultimately a shoulder bag. Shoulder and sling bags provide comfortable access for their contents, but a backpack is a bit more stable when moving and can carry more stuff.  Decide which one is ideal to your requirements. Shoulder bags will be more common on the job, but a nice backpack will merge nicely in all however the most upscale offices.
  • Don’t pack for war unless you have a warzone. You don’t need smoke grenades, an AK and 53 magazines or a folding katana. Should you want to have an avid active shooter/fight on your path home/anti-zombie hordes bag, that’s cool. But don’t make your everday carry unless you reside in a really, really bad place.
  • Don’t carry belongings you never use. Every few weeks, evaluate what’s inside your EDC bag and cut stuff that you haven’t used.
  • Don’t make it merely a survival bag. This is the EDC bag, so make sure you have sufficient EDC items–such things as kleenex, phone chargers, extra batteries and so forth. This can be the bag that you just live of, therefore it must have the belongings you need everyday.
  • Don’t just dump all of your stuff in to a bag–keep things organized to help you find these questions pinch. I love to kit things up when able.

What to Pack with your EDC bag:

  • Water: 1L or higher I’ve found stainless steel water bottles to be the better, and you will cook/boil water in these questions pinch like bulletproof backpacks. You probably don’t need water purification tabs until you frequently travel pretty not even close to home..
  • Food: I carry 4 cliff bars beside me energy bars are usually a very good idea. Snacks, gum, mints, along with your daily lunch are perfect too.
  • Fire: I carry two Bic lighters in my bag. Lighters are likely your best bet.
  • Cash: A number of extra $ 100 can get you pretty far within a pinch–even a crisis $20 comes in handy on a regular basis. Some coins for usage in vending machines may also be helpful to have.
  • Shelter: This can be a bit tougher, when you probably don’t want to tote around a tarp or tent every day. A mini space blanket and disposable poncho undertake little space. Contractor-grade trash bags work too. As a substitute, you can pack an ultralight rain jacket–these can pack down small. Mostly, just dress appropriately to the weather.
  • Medicine/Medical: I carry a small bottle of Ibuprofen, Tums, extra chapstick, some small bandages, alcohol prep pads, tweezers and several super glue. A smaller gunshot wound kit is yet another good option, especially if you use a CCW.
  • Hygiene: Kleenex and hand sanitizer are a pretty wise solution. A tiny mirror is a lightweight, often overlooked multipurpose item. Furthermore, i possess a small travel pack of wet wipes for cleaning up or even a quick scrub down–if you can’t get under the shower, this makes a big difference. I additionally have a razor, a travel toothbrush and roll of floss. If you’re frequently overnighting, a travel sized deodorant and shampoo don’t weigh much.
  • A greater flashlight. Unless I’m out at night, I merely have a very small keychain light in my on-person EDC. I carry a better light in my bag. In case you have a fantastic flashlight on your on-person EDC, consider packing a tiny headlamp much like the the Petzl e+LITE.
  • Caffiene. Best for late road trips, all-nighters, or just sleepy afternoons. Pick the form that suits you. I’ve got a couple little packs of Nodoze and several little packs of Crystal light energy drink mix.
  • A cellphone headset. Bluetooth or perhaps the cheapo wired ones.
  • Sharpies.
  • Gorilla tape (the higher duct tape). I wrap mine around old gift certificates to really make it flatter and more compact. A bajillion uses.
  • A bandanna (or similar). If one’s not with your on-person EDC, you must no less than get one here. A bajillion uses.
  • Paracord. You opt how much is sufficient.
  • A smaller radio should you don’t already have one–many Ipods and mobile phones have an internal radio tuner currently. Using over the news is important.
  • A small camera/camcorder, in case your cellphone doesn’t get one. YMMV for this one.
  • Gun stuff. Extra loaded magazines, why not a backup gun or a regular size pistol to enhance your carry gun. If you are living in Mogadishu or Detroit, you might pack an M60 plus a couple belts of ammo.
  • Zip ties. I did before carry these and ditched ‘em since i couldn’t find a sensible way to carry them rather than used them. But a lot of people like ‘em.
  • Tools. A multitool, some small screwdrivers and a little pry bar can do considerably.
  • Whistle or any other signaling device.
  • A USB Thumbdrive or portable hard disk. Significant files encrypted with TrueCrypt.
  • An additional knife. When you can legally take action and possess the space to do this, a small fixed blade just like the RC-3 or even a cheap Mora knife can are available in quite handy.
  • A laptop and cords. That is of depending on what you do to get a living. A lot of people must have a laptop around with them, some don’t. They are a serious method to obtain weight, so weigh the pluses and minuses carefully. Lightweight, durable and long life of the battery are the top criteria for an EDC laptop. Obtain a good case, too.
  • Electronic backups: Phone chargers, extra batteries and connector cables for your electronics. Those little battery backups are handy too, just in case you aren’t near a power outlet or power quickly scans the blogosphere.
  • A little powerstrip/surge protector. Dependent on whether you’re going to use a laptop along with what other electronics you have to charge. The Belkin is among the most popular and has two ports for charging USB devices.
  • Extra clothes. YMMV about this one, although a jacket is sweet to have around. In case you have a disorganized job, frequently spill throughout yourself, or often take spontaneous overnight trips, a difference of garments may keep you from looking like a whole slob.

That’s a good beginning without getting into bulletproof vests etc., I do believe. Again, watch the load and almost all your pack. Keep things organized. And use a bag with the average, boring, “grey man” look, not just one that screams “I am an action hero.”
